THE DESTINATION

Soma Bay is a luxury resort approximately 40 minute drive south of Hurghada airport; due to its more southerly location this resort is also a good choice during the cooler winter months. The resort is quite remote and so has little in the way of nightlife and shopping. However, the Bay is absolutely stunning and the there is a good choice of some of the most luxurious resort hotels along the Egyptian coastline; plus the new 4* Breaker Boutique hotel (new for 2010 !).

So if you want to ‘get away from it all’ and have a week or two of pure relaxation in one of the best Windsurf, Kitesurf and diving locations in the whole Red Sea, Soma Bay may be worth a look.

THE SPOT

SOMA BAY The bay used to be available to many Kitesurf and Windsurf schools, including sailors coming up form Safaga for the day to learn (as it is the best training ground in the region). The bay is now exclusive to PLANET’S kitesurf schools which means we have now the whole massive bay for our clients !!!

THE WIND

Soma Bay guarantees you at least 2Bft more than the next nearest resort along the Red Sea coast! The wind is accelerated by the close proximity of the mountains to the sea.

In the summer months, from May to Oct, the average wind is around 22 knots with the afternoons sometimes getting up to 25 / 30 (especially in September)! In the winter it is mostly big kite weather (14 - 16's)..

THE KITESURFING

Soma Bay is good for all levels but is especially good for complete beginners or those looking to progress. There is a very high level of instruction on hand and the shallow flat water is just perfect for training.

Combined with the facilities of a 5 star hotel, all on site, this resort is ideal for kiters with families or non-kiting partners.

THE OTHER ACTIVITIES

Soma Bay is a secluded spot for those wishing to just relax in luxury if not on the water. However, there are a variety of excursions, tours and day trips to the interior of this fascinating country. Egypt is probably the world's oldest civilization having emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 years ago. This "Gift of the Nile" as described by Herodotus boasts a longer recorded history than any other country on earth. A country of legends and mysteries, the birthplace of ancient civilization with a third of the world's most magnificent and awesome monuments and treasures.

With a wealth of destination knowledge and travel industry experience, we specialise in tailor made tours so please ask for an special itinerary to take in specific tour / sightseeing.

THE WINDSURFING

Soma Bay is ideal for those wanting to combine windsurfing and kitesurfing. The conditions are very good for all levels and the area is large enough to allow both activities without any clash

THE NIGHTLIFE

Soma Bay does not have a town so this is a hotel based holiday. Safaga is the closest town but has very little to offer in the evenings, so if you feel the need for bright lights then head for Safaga or even Hurghada.
