Sardinia is one of the most stunning islands in the Mediterranean. A hidden gem! For kitesurfers and non-kitesurfers alike you will find something here for everyone. With white sandy beaches and crystal clear water as fine as the Caribbean, and only a short two hour flight away. Sardinia offers kitesurfers not only an ideal climate but also almost perfect wind conditions at least 10 months a year.
Porto Pollo is a small spot on a bay on the north coast of Sardinia, a short drive from our main accommodation offering some of the best kitesurfing that the island has. A huge bay gives plenty of space for beginners and experienced alike. The dunes along the bay offer shelter to non-kiting partners looking to soak up some sun on the beach.
PORTO POLLO
Sardinia has four winds depending on the time of year. The Spring brings the tramontana from north to east with 6 - 8 Beaufort. In the summer the poniente is south/west bringing 4- 8 Beaufort, and in the autumn the scirocco from North Africa with 5-6 Beaufort, and occasionally up to Force 9.
Porto Pollo is located in the windiest point in Sardinia. The proximity to Corsica creates a funnel effect which brings winds that blow up to 8 Beauforts and over. Due to the structure of the two bays you can choose to surf in the protected safe conditions or risk the adventure of sailing in the channel where the waves crest as tall as a rig.
Sardinia is a stunning island and you must spare some time to see some of the amazing scenery, all within a few hours drive of Porto Pollo. Boat trips to the Magdalena Islands are operated from the nearby town of Palau, and this is an experience not to be missed. This breathtaking archipelago has numerous hidden coves with aqua blue waters and luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation. Home to dolphins and several kinds of fish La Maddalena is world-renowned for its naturalistic, historical and cultural wealth.
Diving is very popular in Sardinia, due to the clear waters and rich marine life. There are dive centres in Porto Pollo and Palau.
Sailing is also very popular, and the windsurf center has several types of small catamarans for rent from Lasers to the Hobie Cat 15. They offer a 4 Hour Beginner Course and private lessons for all levels.
Local equestrian centres offer half day trail rides with a stop for swimming, or scenic evening rides to watch the sunset.
Surf and Sail offer beginner instruction only. The best place for windsurfing on the island is in Porto Pollo located on the windiest point of Sardinia.
Evenings in Sardinia are laid back giving you time to enjoy the good food and relaxed Italian atmosphere. The closest town is Palau, only a short drive or you can get a taxi. This is a great place to hang out and soak up the Sardinian way of life - bliss.
