THE DESTINATION

The east coast of Africa is an incredibly beautiful place. Sugar white sand, tropical gardens and turquoise blue sea lying directly on the equator. Africa will suck you in with its fabulous landscapes, warm and friendly people and tropical weather.

Not only is this a great wind sports destination, the diving is some of the best in East Africa and of course this is the land of the big game safari. With two or three parks just a short drive away we can arrange anything from a one night trip to Shima Hills or Tsavo to a full weeks combined safari including the Masai Mara.

THE SPOT

Nyali Beach runs for 1½ kms of white powdery sand with a reef 2 km offshore to provide a natural lagoon – ideal for starting out or learning to perfect more advanced moves. The reef provides amazing down the line riding for those who are experienced enough to tackle the reef break.

THE WIND

Trade winds blow consistantly cross on shore at varying times of year. There are two prime seasons for the wind. The Kaskazi from the North East swings over during November till April. November’s “short rains” often cause little wind and very hot muggy temperatures, but in mid/late December the winds pick up, lessen the humidity, and temperatures are at their best from 30 C to 35 C. The Ocean is at its most beautiful during this season.

The Kusi from the South East howls in from late April till late October during and after the “long rains” season of May / June. Air temperatures are from a cool 25 C to 30C. The winds and seas can often become quite strong and rough during squalls, so some watersports may be postponed from hour to hour with your safety in mind, but equally you will get magical days of blue skies, lots of wind, and full blue seas.

THE KITESURFING

Perfect for all levels from beginners to advanced kiters.

THE OTHER ACTIVITIES

There is a PADI diving centre located next door to the centre. Deep sea fishing is very popular here especially if you hook a marlin! Catamaran sailing, glass bottom boat trips and other watersports are available. There is also an 18 hole golf course in Nyali.

Even if you only come here for a week an overnight safari in Shimba Hills or Tsavo are highly recommended. The red elephant herds in Tsavo are a sight not to be missed. Here you will realy fall in love with this fabulous landscape, its people and its animals.

THE WINDSURFING

The centre has a range of Mistral kit and rental is included for everyone staying at the Nyali Beach Resort. Although the kit is normally 2 years old this is because of the low usage on the boards abd they do not need to be replaced as often as in other much busier resorts.

THE NIGHTLIFE

Mombasa has an amazing selection of restaurants (some great seafood) and some which have entertainment included. Try nightime go-karting or bowling or if you want to hit the dancefloor ask the centre to recommend one of the local nightclubs.

THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

UK / EU passport holders should have a full 10 year passport valid until at least 6 months after date of return. Other passport holders please check with Kenya Embassy (020 7636 2371). You will require a full Kenyan visa for entry into Mombasa. The easiest way to get it is on arrival at Mombasa Airport where it will cost £30.

THE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

There are no compulsory inoculations if traveling from the UK but we recommend to check with your GP for the latest advice.
