GETTING THERE

Charter flights run from Gatwick and most regional airports, principally on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Transfer time is 25 mins. To get the most out of a trip to Fuerteventura it is a good idea to hire a car. We can arrange this for collection and drop off at the airport. It costs from £70 per week.

THE DESTINATION

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canaries although one of the least developed. You arrive at the airport in Puerto Rosario and head North to Corralejo (25 minutes). Generally it is a good idea to have car hire although this is not essential.

The Canary Islands offer excellent value for money and are easily reached, by several charter flights a week, with a short 3 hour flight.

THE SPOT

Fuerteventura offers a variety of conditions depending on the time of year and location; from super flat shallow lagoons to full on wave sailing spots. We know this area extremely well so please call for a personal account and advice on suitability.

FLAG BEACH: There are many other more secluded spots all around the island (including some awesome wave sailing) that are best accessed on a safari. You can join groups of up to 6 kitesurfers of similar standard, and be taken by 4x4 to a new spot each day. For the more adventurous this is an excellent way to get the very best from the island.

KITESURFING SAFARIS: There are many other more secluded spots all around the island (including some awesome wave sailing) that are best accessed on a safari. You can join groups of up to 6 kitesurfers of similar standard, and be taken by 4x4 to a new spot each day. For the more adventurous this is an excellent way to get the very best from the island.

THE WIND

The windiest time in Fuerte is in the summer when a big high pressure sits over the Atlantic and a low over the Sahara. These combine to give reliable cross-shore winds at Flag Beach.

The swells which bring the best waves are caused by depressions in the Atlantic which are more prevalent in winter.

THE KITESURFING

Fuerteventura offers kitesurfers the opportunity to sail in a whole variety of conditions. The summer gives the best winds, the winter the best waves. Flag Beach has a range of conditions; the wind is cross shore from the left with a sandy launch in front of the centre with some shore break. 200m offshore is a deep reef that can provide good jumping and an ideal spot to start learning to wave ride.

Wave sailors will want to try out some of the other breaks around the north that include Glass Beach, Punta Blanca and Cotillo. Each works in slightly different conditions.

THE OTHER ACTIVITIES

Fuerteventura does offer a wide range for the non-windsurfer; don't forget this is a major holiday destination for many holiday makers. The key activities are surfing, diving, horse riding, trekking and cycling.

Excursions in and around Fuerteventura are popular, especially round Lobos, mountain biking and surfing the world class breaks. You can also visit Lanzarote, which is only 45 minutes ferry ride away, take a trip to Lobos or just enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the deserted beaches.

THE WINDSURFING

Courses and windsurf hire are available at Flag Beach and Sotavento. Flag Beach have good conditions for learning with cross shore winds and a sandy sea bed.

THE NIGHTLIFE

In the evenings in Corralejo there are many restaurants to choose from offering Spanish and international cuisine, catering for everyone's budget. It is well worth making the effort to get to Cotillo to sample fresh fish. Of the many bars, Corky's, as well as others, have surf videos running all night and the Waikiki takes your entertainment through to the small hours.

THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

UK / EU passport holders: A full 10 year passport valid until at least 6 months after date of return. No visa required. Other passport holders: Please check with Spanish Consulate (020 7589 8989).
